Crabbing

It all started one day when we were at the Korean market in Houston. They were giving out samples of steamed crab, and Bowman and I became obsessed. We brought some home and had plenty of late-night crabby snacks. We started thinking about it though, and realized that we live in a place with lots of crabs. Lots of free crabs, just swimming around a few minutes from our house. So we went to the store, invested in some twine and some chicken wings, and headed out to restock our crab supply.

The first night we went, we found a spot that was golden. We just tied the chicken to the string and threw it out into the water. Crabbing is so easy. You just pull your line in real slow and when it gets close, you can see the crabs just munching on the piece of chicken. It's actually kind of gross to see them ripping of the chicken with their claws and stuff, but you've got to think to the future about the delicious crab that you'll soon have.

Here is Bowman prepping the chicken.

We realized that pulling the crabs in is the easy part. We aren't really fishermen, and so we don't really have essentials, like a net. And crabs are pretty tricky to catch with no net. The claws, you know. But, we got creative and used our mini-cooler as a scoop. And this was our bounty!

Unfortunately, in the end, it wasn't very appetizing. It was kind of little, and it didn't exactly taste like our beloved steamed crab. Plus food just isn't that great when you kill it yourself if you know what I mean.

P.S. Our little hermit crab!

Sounds like tons of fun. So what cool things are we going to do together in D.C.?
